چکیده

The paper presents partial results of an ongoing project dealing with thermal diffusion and mechanical behavior of spruce wood in high temperature environment (up to 180°C). The objective of this part of study was to obtain rheological properties of spruce wood which will be used in future modeling of wood performance in high temperatures. Oven dry samples (30 x 30 x 700 mm) underwent constant mechanical loading in bending parallel to grain (σ max = 7.3 MPa, load span 600 mm) at three temperature levels, namely 120°C, 150°C and 180°C, respectively. Defl ection of the samples was measured using optical non-contact method. Four rheological parameters of Burger’s model, describing immediate elastic, delayed visco-elastic as well as plastic (permanent material change) behavior, were determined which show the strong infl uence of the temperature on creep propagation. Experimental setup, results and further application in the modeling of high temperature treatment are discussed.

Development of a new creep testing equipment to obtain long-term deformation parameters of salt rocks

Creep phenomenon in rock engineering plays a key role in development of underground spaces as they must be stable enough for a long period of time. Current research involved designing and manufacturing of a new creep testing machine. The equipment is capable to perform simultaneous light-duty creep tests on more than one cylindrical rock samples at a very low cost.To evaluate the equipment’s pe...

Effects of Heat-Treated Wood Particles on the Physico-Mechanical Properties and Extended Creep Behavior of Wood/Recycled-HDPE Composites Using the Time–Temperature Superposition Principle

This study investigated the effectiveness of heat-treated wood particles for improving the physico-mechanical properties and creep performance of wood/recycled-HDPE composites. The results reveal that the composites with heat-treated wood particles had significantly decreased moisture content, water absorption, and thickness swelling, while no improvements of the flexural properties or the wood...

Creep Behavior of Wood Plasticized by Moisture and Temperature

Moisture in wood acting as a plasticizer will strongly affect the wood’s viscoelastic properties. However, achieving the desired moisture content (MC) at elevated temperatures during creep tests is difficult. The aim of this study is to accurately and systematically investigate the creep behavior of birch wood at high temperatures. Experiments were conducted using a dynamic mechanical analyzer ...

Short-Term Creep Behavior of CFRP-Reinforced Wood Composites Subjected to Cyclic Loading at Different Climate Conditions

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) was used to adhesively reinforce Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) wood specimens. This study examined the flexural static and creep performances of CFPR-reinforced wood composites that had been subjected to changes in moisture and stress levels. The major findings were as follows: 1) the cyclic creep was slightly lower for those specimens subjected to...
